Dear Colleagues

Ákos Jobbágy On behalf of the organizers we cordially invite you to participate in the 5th European Conference of the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering, to be held in Budapest, 14-18 September, 2011. The first congress of this series held in Vienna in 1999 was a major breakthrough with more than 1000 scientific papers. The following congresses (Vienna 2002, Prague 2005, and Antwerp 2008) showed that biomedical engineers from all over the world willingly meet in Europe.

Budapest has always been an innovative city from the from the beginning of the last century when the most typical architectural outlook had been implemented, represented by the Parliament, the Opera, the Academy of Sciences, the Western Railway Station (built by the constructor of the Tower of Eiffel), the Central Market and of course the Chain Bridge.  Budapest used to be a link between East and West, also with regard to the science and scientific life.  Many scientists had graduated in Budapest, and became world-known later.

The objective of the conference is to demonstrate that joint R & D activity of medical doctors and engineers greatly increases the effectiveness of healthcare. In the XXIst century engineers offer to medical doctors

“Cooperation for the Effective Healthcare”

We warmly welcome papers jointly authored by medical doctors and engineers, reporting on the application of their results in healthcare. A special award will be offered to acknowledge the best joint achievement.
Papers from all fields of biomedical engineering can be submitted.

The sessions will be organized around the following main topics:

  • biomaterials
  • biomechanics, movement analysis
  • biosensors
  • clinical engineering
  • education
  • expert systems
  • home health monitoring
  • information and communication
  • instrumentation and signal processing
  • imaging and image processing
  • laboratory diagnostics
  • micro- and nanotechnology
  • minimal-invasive technology
  • modeling and simulation
  • neuroengineering, neural systems
  • special topics
  • rehabilitation
  • telemedicine

Experts are encouraged to organize special sessions in their field.
The beginning of September is a wonderful season in Budapest: no coat is required for a walk in the Castle Hill or in downtown.
Looking forward to meeting you in Budapest,

Nándor RICHTER
